The color gray on a horse is a mixture of both colored and white hairs over a dark skin. Gray horses are described as rose gray, steel gray, or dapple gray. Oakley is currently described as a steel gray. This is an accurate description now, but as the graying process progresses this will change over time. A young steel gray horse like Oakley has a black base color, but as he matures he can possibly go through a phase of dapple gray before going almost white. |
